Earlier than feels necessary — this plan puts the booking well before the wedding admin peaks. Leaving it until afterwards means booking flights at short notice during the most expensive and tiring month.
Not necessarily, and there is a real argument for a gap. A few days between the wedding and the flight removes the worst of the logistics and means the first day of the trip is not spent recovering.
