Experiments

Life dashboardEvery part of your life,
scored on the same page.

Attention is not distributed evenly and it is not distributed deliberately. It goes wherever the last loud thing was, which over a year produces a life with two or three areas in excellent shape and two or three that nobody has looked at since the spring. The useful thing about a dashboard is not the scores; it is that all the areas appear at once, so the neglected ones cannot hide behind the ones going well.

Reading the board

Everything you type is saved in this browser only. Fill in a row or two and the download and import options will have something to work with.

✦ How to use it

Three things that make it work.

1
Score fast

First instinct, in one pass. A number you deliberated over is a number about your self-image.

2
Read the lowest two

Not the ones you want to improve. The ones that scored worst, which are usually not the same.

3
One action each

Small, dated, and in the next fortnight. That is the whole output of this exercise.

Score each area from one to ten in the state it is actually in this month, not the state you intend it to reach. Then read the two lowest and write one thing for each. One. A dashboard that generates eight actions produces zero.

It saves in this browser, and it is worth redoing quarterly — the shape of it moves more than people expect.

✦ The limit

A plan is not a record.

This page holds what you intend. It cannot tell you what you did, because nothing on it knows whether the checkpoint on the fourteenth happened, whether the habit ran for nine days or two, or which goal has quietly not moved since March. That is the honest limit of every template, printed or otherwise, and if it has never bothered you then this one is yours for free for good.

EvyOS is the same structure with the work recorded against it. Send this sheet across and the goals, checkpoints and habits arrive as real records with their dates — then progress comes from what you tick off rather than from you remembering to come back and update a slider.

Questions

Life dashboard, answered.

It is the same idea without the circle. The wheel's shape is memorable but hard to fill in honestly on a screen and hard to compare with last quarter; a row of scored bars does the same job and can be read at a glance beside the previous one.
There isn't one, and chasing eights across the board is the standard mistake. A life with two areas at nine, four at six and one deliberately parked at three can be a very good life. The number that matters is the one that is low and that you had not noticed.
Quarterly. Monthly turns it into mood tracking and the scores stop moving for real reasons; annually is too rare to catch an area sliding.
Yes — the eight here are a common set, not a prescription. If faith, or caring for a parent, or a specific craft is a real part of your life, it should be a row.
The two actions become dated tasks, the keystone habits become habits with streaks, and the full scored board is saved as a note so the next quarter has something to compare against.

Keep the plan.
And the record of doing it.

Goals, projects, tasks, habits and skills in one system, with the work logged against what it belonged to.
