Productivity archetype generatorEveryone has a way
of avoiding the work.

Nobody avoids work by doing nothing. Doing nothing feels bad and is obvious. What people actually do is find an activity that resembles the work closely enough to feel productive while containing none of the difficult part — reorganising the system, researching the tools, helping somebody else, planning the plan.

The Helper
You are extremely busy and none of it is yours.

What this actually is

  • Other people's work has a clear brief, obvious gratitude, and no risk of failing at something you care about. It is the most socially rewarded form of avoidance there is, which is why it can run for years without anybody noticing — including you.

The antidote

Specific to this archetype. The generic advice does not touch it.

  • Do ninety minutes on your own thing before you open a message. Not after. There is no after.

Your secondary

The one you fall back on when the first is unavailable.

  • The Starter3 new things this quarter. How many are finished?

All of these look like conscientiousness from outside

That is what makes them durable. Nobody intervenes on somebody who is busy, organised and helpful, so an archetype can run unchallenged for a decade — including by the person doing it.

This result contains something worth keeping.

✦ How to use it

Three things that make it work.

1
Answer about a bad week

Not your best. The archetype only appears when the work is hard.

2
Expect to recognise it

The right one is annoying rather than interesting. If it feels flattering, answer again.

3
Use the antidote

Each archetype has a different one, and the generic advice does not touch any of them.

That is what this names. Not a personality, a failure mode: the specific shape your avoidance takes when the work gets hard. Everybody has one, most people have had theirs for years, and almost nobody has been told what it is, because from the outside it looks like conscientiousness.

It is uncomfortable in the way a good diagnosis is. The antidote at the end is specific to the archetype, because the generic advice does not touch any of them.

✦ The limit

An answer is not a record.

This works something out and then forgets it. It cannot tell you whether the number moved, because it has no memory of the last time you ran it and no idea what you did in between. Every calculator on the internet has that limit, and if it has never bothered you then this one is yours for free for good.

EvyOS is the same structure with the work recorded against it. Send the result across and it becomes real goals, tasks or habits with their dates — then the next answer is computed from what actually happened rather than from what you remember typing.

Questions

Productivity archetype generator, answered.

The personality test describes how you work when things are going well. This describes what you turn into when the work gets hard — the specific productive-looking activity you substitute for it. One is a preference, the other is a failure mode.
Because that is the point. Nobody avoids work by doing nothing — doing nothing feels bad and is obvious. People find an activity that resembles the work closely enough to feel like progress while containing none of the difficult part, and from outside it is indistinguishable from conscientiousness.
Everyone is. The secondary is shown for that reason — it is the one you fall back on when the first is unavailable, which is why banning yourself from changing tools often just produces a burst of planning.
They are, deliberately. Each archetype has a specific mechanism and a small intervention aimed at that mechanism beats a large general one, because the general one is exactly what the archetype is good at absorbing.
No. It is eight recognisable patterns with no research behind them, which the result says plainly. Their value is recognition, not taxonomy.
