Time budget calculatorEverything you have said yes to,
added up.

Overcommitment is an accounting failure, not a character one. Each yes is reasonable in isolation, none of them is checked against the total, and the shortfall only becomes visible as a series of small failures spread across everything at once — which reads as being bad at things rather than as having agreed to more hours than exist.

✦ How to use it

Three things that make it work.

1
Start with real capacity

The discretionary hours you actually have, from the 168-hour audit if you have done it.

2
List every commitment

Including the ongoing ones you have stopped noticing. Those are what quietly consume the budget.

3
Cut a line, not a corner

If the balance is negative, spreading the shortfall across everything makes all of it worse. Remove something.

So this is a budget in the household sense. Hours in at the top, commitments below, and a balance that can go negative. A negative balance is not a motivational problem; it is a subtraction, and the fix is to remove a line rather than to try harder.

The realism factor is the part people leave out. Nobody executes at a hundred per cent of plan, and building in the slack you already know you need is what separates a budget from a wish.

✦ The limit

An answer is not a record.

This works something out and then forgets it. It cannot tell you whether the number moved, because it has no memory of the last time you ran it and no idea what you did in between. Every calculator on the internet has that limit, and if it has never bothered you then this one is yours for free for good.

EvyOS is the same structure with the work recorded against it. Send the result across and it becomes real goals, tasks or habits with their dates — then the next answer is computed from what actually happened rather than from what you remember typing.

Questions

Time budget calculator, answered.

Nobody uses every discretionary hour well. Between 70 and 80 per cent is realistic for most people; planning at 95 builds the failure into the budget and then blames you for it when the week goes normally.
A whole line, not a slice off each. Spreading a four-hour shortfall across six commitments makes all six worse and finishes none of them, which is the specific way overcommitment turns into feeling bad at everything.
The 168-hour week calculator, which subtracts sleep, work, commuting, chores and screens and hands you the number this one starts with.
Especially those. The volunteer role from two years ago and the standing call nobody has cancelled are exactly the lines people stop seeing, and they are still spending the budget every week.
Send it across and each commitment becomes a project in EvyOS with its weekly hours recorded, so the next time you are asked to take something on there is a real number to check it against.

Keep the answer.
And the record of doing it.

Goals, projects, tasks, habits and skills in one system, with the work logged against what it belonged to.
