Public speaking improves with repetitions, not with reading about it. This starts with low-stakes chances to speak, records each one and watches it back for one thing to fix, joins a group where practice is the point, and builds to a longer talk in front of a real audience within three months.

Public speaking tips

Know the first thirty seconds by heart. The nerves peak at the start. Practise aloud, standing up. Rehearsing in your head skips the hard part. Slow down. Nearly everyone speaks faster when nervous. Pause instead of saying um. A pause sounds confident. One idea per slide, or no slides at all. End on purpose, with the one thing you want remembered.

Watch recordings for one thing at a time. Fixing everything at once fixes nothing.

Questions

Get better at public speaking, answered.

Speak more often, and review each attempt. Recording a two-minute talk and watching it back for one specific thing, such as pace or filler words, improves speaking faster than any amount of reading tips.
Most speakers never stop feeling nervous; they get used to it. Knowing the opening by heart, practising aloud rather than in your head, and slowing your breathing before you start all help the nerves stay manageable.
Team meetings, a club such as Toastmasters, volunteering to give a short update, or a local meetup that takes lightning talks. Low-stakes, regular chances to speak do more than one big presentation a year.
